About Jay Schwartz
Creator of inspiring, modern & whimsical art
I am originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and I moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 2002. MY most recent group of paintings came about as a result of a near death experience in the fall of 2005. My paintings are Modernistic Expressions of lyrical and whimsical subjects. They depict my journey to recover from a tumor on the brain stem. They are also representative of a re-birth of spirit, mind and body. My long and challenging recovery is a testimonial to the power of the soul.
As a result of my journey, this collection of imaginative, fantastical and colorful subjects were created. I have dedicated these paintings to those who love creativity and achievements on all levels.
During my art career I have worked in various media, bronze and wood sculptures, portrait and nature photography, jewelry in ancient designs, oils, acrylics and mixed media paintings.
My travels to Europe, Egypt, Nepal, Tibet, Africa, China, Central and South America, have provided a wealth of inspiration in the development of my artwork.
My credits include gallery shows, exhibitions, art festivals and private commissions.
I have been involved with projects such as ancient Egyptian discoveries at the University of Pennsylvania Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
In 1985 I established The Tribal Arts Gallery of Philadelphia due to my love and passion for African and Oceanic art.
I graduated from Temple University, attended the Tyler School of Art and the Fleisher School of Art in Philadelphia.
I believe as Dr. Wayne Dyer says... "Don't die with the music still in you!"
